The short version

FlashcardMaker.org has no accounts, no logins and no sign-up forms, and we do not collect email addresses. The decks you make are stored on our servers so their links keep working, and anyone who has a deck's link can see and edit it. We use Google Analytics to count visits. The rest of this page explains each of those in detail.

Your decks

When you create a deck, its name and cards are stored on Cloudflare's servers (in a Cloudflare Durable Object) under a random 16-character address. That is what lets you come back to a deck, share it, and edit it with other people. We also keep an encrypted backup copy so decks are not lost if something fails.

What your browser keeps

Your browser's local storage holds a list of the decks you made on this device (their names, links and card counts) and a random token marking you as a deck's creator. This stays on your device; we do not use it to identify you, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get visited and how people move through the site. It uses cookies and reports to us only in aggregate; we cannot see individual visitors. Page addresses are part of what it records, so a deck's link appears in our analytics when the deck is visited. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising

The site does not currently show advertising. If we add it, this section will say which network serves the ads, what they collect and how to opt out, before the first ad appears.

Other companies whose servers your browser contacts

Each of these sees your IP address because your browser asked it for a file. Nothing else is loaded from anywhere else.

Server logs

Cloudflare records ordinary access information (IP address, browser type, addresses requested, timestamps) for security and debugging and discards it on its normal schedule. We do not sell or share it.

What we do not do

We do not require or accept accounts. We do not collect names or email addresses. We do not sell personal information. The site is a general-audience study tool; it does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and there is no place on it to enter any.

Your rights

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you and to opt out of its sale or sharing; we do not sell personal information. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with comparable law, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and restriction. Because there are no accounts, the only thing we can usually act on is a specific deck, which we will delete on request. For any request or question, write to p@pwhite.org.
